Let Claude organize your files without fearing for them.
Desktop Steward gives Claude careful hands on your computer. It sorts, finds and cleans up, asks before anything risky, and every change can be undone.
Delete 1 item? ~/Documents/AI Workspace/test.txt. Kept for 7 days and can be undone.
How it works
Three steps, no setup screens
Install it like a browser extension, keep the default folders or pick your own, and ask in plain words.
Download and double-click
Claude Desktop installs it in one click. No terminal, no config files, no account.
Keep or change the folders
By default Claude can read Desktop, Documents, Downloads and Pictures, and change files only in Documents/AI Workspace and Downloads.
Ask in plain words
“Tidy my Downloads by type and month.” “Find duplicate photos.” Ready-made tasks sit in the + menu.
Safety first
Built so a mistake is never the end of a file
AI makes mistakes. Desktop Steward is designed so that none of them is permanent, and the dangerous ones never happen without you.
Rules in plain words
You choose which folders Claude may read and which it may change. Everything else does not exist for it.
Asks before anything risky
Deleting, replacing a file or moving many files opens a confirmation window on your Mac. Claude cannot click it for you.
Undo for 7 days
The old version is kept before a change. Deleted files wait in a holding area. Say “undo” and it is back.
Off limits, always
Passwords, keys, browser data, mail, system folders, and anything that runs when double-clicked. No terminal, no network.
A panel of everything it did
Say “open the panel” to see every change with an Undo button, the activity log, and the rules in force. Only reachable from your Mac.
Read the full security model, including what it does not protect against.
Ready-made tasks
One click in the + menu
Each task shows you the plan first and moves files only after you agree.
Tidy up Downloads
Sorts files into folders by type and month.
Find duplicate photos
Finds identical pictures and how much space they waste.
Free up disk space
Biggest folders and files, with safe suggestions.
Tidy the Desktop
Moves clutter into a few sensible folders.
Find documents by topic
Searches names and the text inside PDFs and Word files.
Rename photos by date
So they finally sort in order.

FAQ
Questions people ask
Does it need a paid Claude plan?
It needs the Claude Desktop app for Mac. Local extensions are installed from Settings → Extensions.
Does anything leave my computer?
No. Desktop Steward has no server and no telemetry. Claude itself sees only what you ask it to read, the same as when you paste text into a chat.
Can Claude delete my files by mistake?
Every deletion opens a confirmation window on your computer that Claude cannot click. Deleted files are kept for 7 days and can be brought back with “undo”.
Why the red “not verified” banner on install?
Claude Desktop shows it for every extension that is not yet signed. Signing is in progress.
Is there a Windows version?
Coming. Email us and we will tell you when it ships.
Is it open source?
Yes, under the MIT license. The security model and the code are open to review.
